Joseph L. Conrad, 63, Mills Road, Avon, died this morning at 2:30 in Lakewood Hospital.
Mr. Conrad, a farmer, was born in Avon and lived there all his life. He was a member of St. Mary's church, Avon and of the Catholic Order of Foresters in Cleveland.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; three sisters, Mrs. Frank Horwedel and Mrs. George Horwedel of Avon and Mrs. Fred Horwedel of Avon Lake.
The body will be taken to the home late today. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 9:00 from St. Mary's church in Avon with the Rev. George M. Stuber officiating. Burial will be made in St. Mary's cemetery, Avon. | Conrad, Mr Joseph Lawrence (I372)

Julia (Julie) B., 81, died Wednesday, April 27, 2022 after a brief illness.
Born February 20, 1941 in Washington, DC, daughter of the late Richard I. Barnes, Sr. and Julia (Phalen) Barnes. She graduated from high school at St. Patrick?s Academy.
Surviving are her four children, Ronald W. (Shelly) Thomas, Newport, NC; Renee M. (Randy) Brooks, Silver Spring, MD; Marla K. (Eric Gustafson) Brunell, Clifton, VA; and Matthew R. (Katja) Thomas, Silver Spring, MD. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother Richard Barnes, Jr. and his wife Nancy. She is survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She loved dancing, music and art. She loved reading books and traveling. She loved sharing her passions with her friends and family.
A visitation for Julia will be held Thursday, May 5, 2022 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at National Funeral Home at 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042. A funeral service will occur Friday, May 6, 2022 from 10:00am to 11:00am, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.
A reception will occur Friday, May 6, 2022 from 11:00am to 1:00pm, at the same address.

LONACONING -- William Henry Berry, 75, of 90 Jackson Street, a town councilman here for 18 years, died Sunday afternoon at his home.
A retired coal miner, he was the husband of Mrs. Mary Ellen DeVault Berry. They observed their fiftieth wedding anniversary several years ago.
Mr. Berry was a member of Local 2835, United Mine Workers of America. A native of Barton, he was the song of the late Charles and Hannah Quinn Berry.
Besides his widow, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Albert Wagner of Westernport, and Mrs. John E. Wills of Potomac Park; three sons, Charles W. Berry, at home; Ervin Berry of Morgantown, and James Berry of Lonaconing; two sisters, Mrs. Ada Dohme of Lonaconing, and Mrs. Charles Morris of Akron, and four grandchildren.

Margaret Kathryn Burdiss, 87, of Coal City, died Monday, April 9, 2007, at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a short illness.
Born March 11, 1920, in Wyoming County, she was the daughter of the late Martin L. Sutphin and Lenora Martin Sutphin.
Mrs. Burdiss was a graduate of Herndon High School and was a retired employee of the Raleigh County Board of Education. She had served as a secretary for the Stoco High School and last for Independence High School.
She was a member of St. Francis deSales Catholic Church in Beckley.
Mrs. Burdiss was the last surviving member of her immediate family of 11 children.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Burdiss.
Survivors include daughter, Nikki Smith and husband, Samuel, of Englewood, Ohio; grandchildren, Christina DeFrance of Frederick, Md., Melissa DeFrance of St. Louis, Mo., and Sandra Rackley of Dayton, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua DeFrance and Quincy Rackley.
Funeral Liturgy will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Franis deSales Catholic Church, Beckley, with the Rev. Perciles Malacaman as celebrant.
Rites of Committal will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley..
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley, where a Christian prayer service will be held at 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bowers Hospice House, 454 Cranberry Drive, Beckley, in memory of Mrs. Burdiss.

Maxine West
Maxine West, 88, of Beckley, passed away Friday, August 17, 2012, at the Bowers Hospice House following a long illness.
Born June 10, 1924, in Vanwood, WV, she was the daughter of the late George and Bertha Burgess Burdiss.
Maxine was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, James West; brothers, Harry, Charles, Paul, Cornelius, Carl and Bill; and sisters, Catherine Farrar, Gertrude Meadows and Louise Dunn.
She is survived by her son, James; grandsons Scott and Larry; three nephews and eight nieces.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2012, in the Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Rumberg officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to service on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Scott West, Tom Cooper, Rob Cooper, Pat Burdiss, Frank Whiteman and Roy Pack. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hosey, Alan Cummings, Curtis Herron, Frank Holtzaphel, Alen Penney and Mark McMahan.

Morgantown, W. Va., Aug 7 -- Funeral services for Edward J Berry, 64, well-known local businessman, who died suddenly at his home on Harper Street Sunday, were held this afternoon by the Rev. Benton Roy Hanan, pastor of the Christian Church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Born March 5, 1882 at Pekin, MD., Mr. Berry was a son of the late Charles D. and Hannah Gwynn Berry. He had been a resident of this city for 23 years, having come here from Newburg. He also lived at Bayard, W. Va., where he was engaged in the confectionery business.
Mr. Berry had been working as a shop foreman at Christopher No. 5 Mine at National. He was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics at Barton, MD. and a member of Local 4040, United Mine Workers of America.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Minne Lourverna Chanoweth Berry; four children, Edith L and Josephine Berry, both at home; Walter G. Berry, of Baltimore, and Mrs. Inez McDonald of Morgantown; two brothers, Harry Berry, of Barton, and William Berry of Lonaconing, MD.; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Dohms of Lonaconing and Mrs. Helen Reinhold of Akron, Ohio, and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Meadows Taken By Death
Mrs. Gertrude Meadows, 44, of Coal City, died yesterday morning! at 7:30 at a local hospital after an illness of several months.
She was a Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Methodist Church at Winding Gulf.
Mrs. Meadows. is survived by her husband, Willis C. Meadows. of Coal City: three sisters. Mrs. Kathleen Farrar, Mrs. Louise Canterbury and Miss Maxine Bur- diss, all of Coal City: and five brothers. Henry, Carl, Paul and Charles Burdiss, all of Coal City, and Bill Burdiss. of Beckley.
The body will remain at the Calfee Funeral Home until Fri- day at 4 p. m., when it will be removed to the residence at Coal City.
Funeral services will be held at the Coal City Community Church Sunday at 2 p. m. The body will lie in state at the church an hour. before the service. The Rev. Row- land Kennedy and the Rev. Clyde: Meador will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park.
The Coal City Eastern Star Lodge No. 136 and the Masons will take part in the services. The Ladies Aid Society will serve as flower bearers. Active pallbearers will be:

Mrs. Toll Dies
AVON, May 13 -- The funeral services of Mrs. Barbara Toll, 83, who died in her home on Town Line road Saturday after a five weeks' illness, were conducted in St. Mary's church Tuesday morning with the Rev. George Stuber officiating. Mrs. Toll is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Conrad of Avon & Mrs. Peter Stauder of Sheffield, one son, Jacob Toll of Avon; seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She had lived here her entire life and resided in her home for the past 50 years.

Rev. Dwight L. Sheesley, 81, of Littlestown, PA, died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at his home. Born December 20, 1932 in Port Trevorton, PA, he was the son of the late Rev. Joseph and Esther Sheesley and the father of the late Dwight L. Sheesley Jr. He was the husband of Janice Kemp Sheesley, his wife of 55 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He retired in 1988 after 30 years of government service and went on to become a full time ordained United Methodist minister. Over the last 25 years he served the following churches: Solley UMC in Glen Burnie; Union Bridge UMC; Johnsville UMC; Trinity UMC in Emmitsburg; Catoctin UMC in Thurmont and then back to Johnsville UMC. He enjoyed gardening and loved to spend time with his family. He was active in the Boy Scouts for more than 50 years, achieving the highest award, the Silver Beaver. Enjoying history, he was a board member of the Strawbridge Shrine Association for several decades. He was also active as a volunteer at Lovely Lane United Methodist Historical Society and served as a tour guide at the Strawbridge Shrine. He led Bible studies at local nursing homes, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Asera Care Hospice the past few years and received the hospice Volunteer of the Year Award in 2013. He was a member of the Glen Burnie Masonic Lodge #213 and received his 50-year pin from Plymouth Lodge #143 of Union Bridge. In addition to his wife, he is survived by children and spouses. Beverly and George Ford, Cindy and Russell Hash, Kevin and Jane Sheesley; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister, Ella Mae Holmes and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 4 sisters and 1 brother. The family will receive friends at Johnsville United Methodist Church, 11106 Green Valley Rd., Union Bridge, 2-6 p.m. Sunday, January 19 and at the church Monday, January 20 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Wm. Louis Piel, pastor of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Finksburg and Rev. Margaret Moon, Johnsville church pastor. Interment will be in Glen Haven Cemetery, Glen Burnie.
