- Rev. Dwight L. Sheesley, 81, of Littlestown, PA, died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at his home. Born December 20, 1932 in Port Trevorton, PA, he was the son of the late Rev. Joseph and Esther Sheesley and the father of the late Dwight L. Sheesley Jr. He was the husband of Janice Kemp Sheesley, his wife of 55 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He retired in 1988 after 30 years of government service and went on to become a full time ordained United Methodist minister. Over the last 25 years he served the following churches: Solley UMC in Glen Burnie; Union Bridge UMC; Johnsville UMC; Trinity UMC in Emmitsburg; Catoctin UMC in Thurmont and then back to Johnsville UMC. He enjoyed gardening and loved to spend time with his family. He was active in the Boy Scouts for more than 50 years, achieving the highest award, the Silver Beaver. Enjoying history, he was a board member of the Strawbridge Shrine Association for several decades. He was also active as a volunteer at Lovely Lane United Methodist Historical Society and served as a tour guide at the Strawbridge Shrine. He led Bible studies at local nursing homes, volunteered for Meals on Wheels and Asera Care Hospice the past few years and received the hospice Volunteer of the Year Award in 2013. He was a member of the Glen Burnie Masonic Lodge #213 and received his 50-year pin from Plymouth Lodge #143 of Union Bridge. In addition to his wife, he is survived by children and spouses. Beverly and George Ford, Cindy and Russell Hash, Kevin and Jane Sheesley; 12 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister, Ella Mae Holmes and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 4 sisters and 1 brother. The family will receive friends at Johnsville United Methodist Church, 11106 Green Valley Rd., Union Bridge, 2-6 p.m. Sunday, January 19 and at the church Monday, January 20 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Wm. Louis Piel, pastor of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Finksburg and Rev. Margaret Moon, Johnsville church pastor. Interment will be in Glen Haven Cemetery, Glen Burnie. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of the following: Asera Care, 44 Bowman Rd., York, PA 17408; Marley United Methodist Church, 30 Marley Neck Rd., Glen Burnie, MD 21060; Johnsville United Methodist Church, 11106 Green Valley Rd., Union Bridge, MD 21791 or Union Bridge United Methodist Church, 7 S. Main St., Union Bridge, MD 21791. (Those choosing to send flowers may request that their florist deliver in the back entrance of the church Saturday from 9 a.m. ? 1 p.m.
