- George V. Beitzel, 95, formerly of Reading, passed away at 6:35 p.m. of natural causes at Topton Lutheran Home, where he was a resident since 1997.
George was born in Reading on Feb. 18, 1915, a son of the late George D. and Beulah E. (Frantz) Beitzel.
He was the widower of Pearl M. (Zuber) Beitzel. She died Aug. 23, 1998.
Mr. Beitzel worked as a machinist at CarTech, Reading, for 44 years. He retired in 1980.
He served in the U.S. Navy in both World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of the Patriotic Order Sons of America-Washington Hall.
George loved his grandchildren and he was extremely proud of them. Hunting and fishing were his two favorite pastimes.
Mr. Beitzel was a 1934 graduate of Reading High School and a graduate of Wyomissing Poly-Tech.
He was a lifelong member of St. Thomas UCC, Reading, where he was also a member of the church council.
George is also survived by a son, Dale C., husband of Linda L. (Yeakel) Beitzel, Fleetwood. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Christopher A. and Kathleen L. Beitzel.
Services will be at Sanders Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 1501 N. 11th St., Reading, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 31. Friends are invited to call the funeral home on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. The burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Endowment Fund-St. Thomas UCC, 851 N. 11th St., Reading, PA 19604.
